Capt. Casey Mumper

Capt. Casey Mumper

Meet The Captain

Casey Mumper woke up to an angler’s dream each day as a kid.

He only needed to walk out the front door of his childhood home in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, and look east about 100 yards to be greeted by the sun coming up over the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan.

“I was always kind of amazed at the big ships and the boats out there, especially at night when you can see the lights dancing on the water,” said Mumper, who grew up right on the county line between Kewaunee and Manitowoc off of Highway 42. “It was like looking out into the unknown a little bit.”

It’s no surprise that Mumper went from living by the lake to now practically living on it in sharing his passion with others as the owner of Mumpy Ride Sportfishing Charters.

With more than 20 years of experience fishing on Lake Michigan, Mumper has built a strong network of top Captains in the area among his friends – ensuring he knows the best spots to get the hot bites.

Beyond his expertise, what truly sets this Captain apart is his ability to craft unforgettable fishing adventures.

“One of the things I want people to say after they’re done is, ‘We’re coming back. We’re doing this again next year,’” said Mumper, who has been a Charter Captain since 2019 and is U.S. Coast Guard certified and fully insured.

With safety being his top priority, the Captain is trained in CPR and first aid.

Book a trip with Mumpy Ride Sportfishing Charters and enjoy panoramic views from the open cabin aboard a 310 Baha Fisherman – where you won’t miss the action of any bites on a line.

Plus, the Captain uses advanced radar and has the most up-to-date electronics to ensure you’ll reel in a great catch, whether you’re fishing for king / chinook salmon, coho salmon, rainbow trout, lake trout or brown trout!

“It was like a battle,” Mumper recalls about bringing in a massive 20-pound king salmon as an early adolescent for his first catch out on Lake Michigan. “That’s when I started enjoying it and thought it was awesome. Seeing that big fish in the back of a big boat, I thought that was the coolest.”

While Mumper enjoys every minute out on the water, what keeps him grounded and motivated to be a better person each day is his family.

Mumpy Ride Sportfishing Charters would not be possible without the Captain’s loving wife, Ashley, who encouraged him to buy his boat when he had the opportunity (she’s a real catch). They have two children, Calvin and Aubrey, who enjoy spending time on the dock.

Mumper is a teacher at Kewaunee High School, where he was a standout three-sport athlete. The opportunity to become a technology education teacher at his alma mater came about after he spent more than 15 years working in a fabrication and machine shop

His ability to adapt, relate, instruct, and coach translates on his boat as well for those looking to book a trip for a youngster or first-timers fishing the big water of Lake Michigan.

“I don’t fish because I have to,” Mumper said. “I fish because I WANT to.”
